Millie Harvey is a director, producer and editor based in London, specialising in character-led and creative documentary for non-profit organisations and media. She currently works as Video Lead at UK charity Shelter, where she produces short film and branded content.

Millie has over ten years experience as a freelance shooting-director, working in countries across sub-Saharan Africa, Afghanistan and the UK about issues in global health, the impact of conflict on women and the UKs asylum system.  Her work has been used to lobby governments and she has contributed to outlets including the Guardian, The I, and Channel 4 News. Clients include the World Health Organisation, Women for Women International and Freedom from Torture.

Taking a collaborative and sensitive approach to filmmaking, Millie ensures that contributors share their views and stories at a pace and level of involvement set by them. This also provides a careful, yet powerful way to put the views of people with lived experience at the centre of an organisation's campaigning and communications.

Millie is a recipient of the Wellcome Trust International Engagement Award and she is a co-recipient of the Future of Journalism Global Award for the Guardian’s coverage of sleeping sickness eradication in the Democratic Republic of Congo. She studied Screen Documentary at Goldsmiths, UCL with a specialism in participatory documentary. HEFAT certified (2017). Shooting on Canon EOS Cinema cameras.

Millie is dedicated to achieving the highest standard in all that she does and she is a pleasure to work with.'

Brita Fernandez Schmidt, Executive Director, Women for Women International UK

'Millie’s constant and outstanding gift is an ability to bring creativity, enthusiasm and a positive response to what is often a complex and difficult environment. She faces challenges as opportunities for creative solutions which succeed magnificently; she invites her subjects to participate in the work in a way which encourages and reassures them, and enables their own creativity to come into play.
