DIPO CEREMONY, SAFEHANDS

Dipo is a traditional festival and rite of passage for young women celebrated by the people of Krobo, Ghana. This short documentary filmed and edited for the charity SafeHands looks at the role Dipo plays in a young woman's life and at how socio-economic challenges can mean parents initiate their daughters early.

'Dipo Ceremony: from Girlhood to Womanhood' is part of 'Breaking the Cycle', a SafeHands production and visual document that explores, the rituals, cultural traditions and taboos around female menstruation, across the globe.

Producer-director: Nancy Durrell McKenna. Camera and editor: Millie Harvey.
